From July 12 to 13,2022Wuhan University Doctoral Consortium in Library and Information Science was successfully held virtually. The Doctoral Consortium was organized by our School and the Center for Studies of Information Resources, Wuhan University, Key Research Base of Humanities and Social Sciences of Ministry of Education.
Focusing on the cultivation of top-notch innovative talents in Library and Information Science, this Doctoral Consortium invited 22 excellent doctoral students from more than ten universities across the country to make presentations and exchanges around the theme ofIntelligent Information Service in Uncertain Digital Environment. During the period, Library and Information Academic Journal Salon was held, which attracted a number of academic journal editors-in-chief, experts and scholars to discuss how to improve the knowledge service ability of Chinese sci-tech journals. There were nearly 400 virtual participants in the Doctoral Consortium. Through the collision of various viewpoints and ideas in different academic backgrounds, all of them actively broadened their academic thinking and research fields, stimulated their passion for theoretical innovation, and achieved good results.
Feicheng Ma, Senior Professor of Humanities and Social Sciences at Wuhan University, and Dean of the Big Data Institute of Wuhan University,attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. He expressed his great concern for the development of young talents, and earnestly hoped that young students would aspire to lofty goals and carry out innovative research for the strategic needs of the country.Chuanfu Chen, Senior Professor of Humanities and Social Sciences at Wuhan University, and Dean of the Graduate School, Wuhan University, reviewed the development of postgraduate education in Library and Information Science. He pointed out that the postgraduate education of Library and Information Science should shoulder the dual mission of promoting the discipline development and serving the society. On behalf of the organizers of the Doctoral Consortium,Wei Lu, Professor and Dean of the School of Information Management, Wuhan University, expressed his gratitude to the academic and industry community for their support. He affirmed the vigor and potential of the young students of Library and Information Science in China, and encouraged them to work hard to serve the economic and social development.Congjing Ran, Professor and Director of Library Science Department of the SIM, Wuhan University, presided over the opening ceremony.
In the report exchange session, the Doctoral Consortium had six sub-venues.
In the No. 1 sub-venue, doctoral students from National Science Library, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Nankai University and Wuhan University exchanged views on the functions and roles of university library and the construction of China's open access policy.Jiuzhen Zhang, Professor at Peking University,Guoquan Zang, Professor at Zhengzhou University, andLihong Zhou, Professor at our School commented on the reports.Gang Wu, Associate Professor at our School, presided over the session.

The Library and Information Academic Journal Salon consisted of three parts: the introduction of English journals in domestic Library and Information, the experience sharing of excellent reviewers and the experience sharing of outstanding authors.
Zhesi Shen, Deputy Editor-in-Chief ofJournal of Data and Information Science,introduced the publication, development, funding, and the types of contributions.Dongxiao Gu, editorial member ofData Intelligence, introduced the collection of this journal, and shared various academic activities regularly organized by the journal.Data and Information Managementis an English journal managed by our School.Xiaoliang Shen, Deputy Editor-in-Chief ofData and Information Management, introduced the basic information, the composition of editorial board, the distribution of authors, the process of submitting and reviewing manuscripts, the types of contributions received and the collection of special topics, etc., and put forward the idea of "building an academic community together and developing a new pattern".
Yuxiang Zhao, Professor at Nanjing University of Science and Technology, andPeng Xiao, Associate Professor at Sun Yat-sen University, as representatives of excellent reviewers, put forward some suggestions on how to deal with the peer review opinions of academic journals.
Chang Liu, Associate Professor at Peking University andZhenjia Fan, Associate Professor at Nankai University, as representatives of outstanding authors, shared with the participating doctoral students how to make contributions more scientifically and reasonably.Enmei Song, Director of the Journal Center of our School, presided over the Salon.
At the closing ceremony,Xiaoguang Wang, Professor and Associate Dean of our School, made the conclusion of the Doctoral Consortium. He expressed his heartfelt thanks to the participating experts, scholars and relevant organizations, and looked forward to further exchanges and cooperation with academic peers in promoting doctoral students in Library Science and Information Science in scientific research, providing consultancy service for government’s policy-making, science and technology contests and system research and development.Quan Lu, Professor and Director of the Department of Information Management Science of our School, presided over the closing ceremony.
