On the morning of January 4, 2022, a grand appointment ceremony for the highest-level liberal arts talents was held in the lecture hall of the Old Library of Wuhan University. Chuanfu Chen, Professor at our school, was appointed as Senior Professor of Humanities and Social Sciences at Wuhan University.

Professor Chuanfu Chen is currently the Dean of the Graduate School, Wuhan University, and previously served as the Dean of the School of Information Management and the Dean of the Undergraduate School, Wuhan University. He is also the Vice Chairman of the Library Society of China, member and convener of the Discipline Review Group of Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, member and the Editor-in-Chief of Library Science of the China Encyclopedia Editor-in-Chief Committee, and the Vice Chairman of the National Steering Committee for Postgraduate Education of Library and Information Science. He has always insisted on using Marxist methodology to guide teaching, scientific research and management, and always put fostering virtue through education in a prominent position. He insists on standing in the front line of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, putting the needs of the country, disciplines and teachers and students first, seeking truth and being pragmatic, and promoting reform and development. And he won the national talent title in 2009, and was selected into the list of Cultural Masters and Leading Figures in Theory, Journalism, Publishing, Literature and Art in 2015, and the National Special Support Plan for High-level Talents in Philosophy and Social Sciences in 2016.

Professor Chuanfu Chen has been engaged in the teaching and research of Library Science, Information Resource Management and Intellectual Property for a long time. He pays attention to grasping the frontier and direction of the discipline, boldly explores new fields, and promotes the new development of the discipline in the digital age. He has undertaken more than 30 important research projects, such as Major Projects of the National Social Science Fund of China, National Science and Technology Support Program, and Projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. He published more than 200 papers in excellent publications at home and abroad and compiled more than 20 books of various kinds. He has studied and explored the library development theory with Chinese characteristics, library intellectual property theory and information resources public access theory, and his papers and works were widely cited by many scholars in more than ten countries around the world. He won the first and second prizes at the provincial and ministerial levels, such as the Outstanding Achievement Award of Scientific Research in Colleges and Universities (Humanities and Social Sciences) of the Ministry of Education, the second prize of the National Science and Technology Award (Science and Technology Progress Award) nominated by the Ministry of Education, the Advanced Individual of the first National Teaching Material Construction Award, and his works have been selected into the National Philosophy and Social Sciences Achievement Library.

Professor Chuanfu Chen pays attention to serving the country's major strategic needs, and his research results have been adopted by relevant state departments for many times, and have been applied in a series of information projects, providing an important reference for decisions such as intellectual property rights of network information resources, government information disclosure, construction of learning discipline system and so on. At the same time, as invited expert, Professor Chuanfu Chen participated in a number of important national foreign exchange activities and contributed to the achievement of relevant programs.

Professor Chuanfu Chen attaches great importance to discipline and team building and has trained a large number of outstanding talents. In discipline construction, he planned scientifically and devoted himself to work. He has led teachers and students to make outstanding achievements in the construction of national key disciplines of the first-level subject of Library, Information, and Archives Management, and improving international cooperation level. Professor Chuanfu Chen actively promoted the development cooperation in his discipline field, promoted cross-strait academic exchanges and consensus, promoted the establishment of the degree system of Library and Information Science, and promoted the coordinated development of disciplines. He has also established good academic relations with international organizations and peers, and was invited to the United States, France, Britain and Singapore for academic exchanges. Professor Chuanfu Chen respected the law of talent cultivation, innovated teaching methods, promoted teaching reform, won the first prize of provincial teaching achievement and was approved as a national-level premium sharing course. Many doctoral students under his guidance won the provincial excellent doctoral thesis awards, the national excellent doctoral thesis nomination awards and the excellent doctoral projects of the National Social Science Fund of China.

At the appointment ceremony, Professor Chuanfu Chen stated his main directions for future work as the followings: Firstly, he should grasp the discipline direction and the general trend of the discipline; Secondly, he should actively serve the national strategic needs, closely follow the pulse of the times and strengthen discipline construction; Thirdly, he should consciously adhere to the people-oriented research position; Fourthly, he should be brave in taking social responsibility; Fifthly, he would constantly seek human welfare and make contributions to the peaceful development of all mankind.
