Career Guidance: Lecture on Career Planning and Selection for New Postgraduate Students

On the afternoon of September 24, 2019, our school held a lecture on career planning for new postgraduate students. The lecture was given by Ms. Mo Wu who is China regional manager of GE Finance and Loans Department, central China HR of 360 Enterprise Security Group and central China HR as well as head of operations of Research and Development Center in QiAnxin Group, and student counselor Ting Lei was the host. Nearly two hundred postgraduates of 2019-year grade attended the lecture.

Ms. Mo Wu gives a lecture on career planning and personal selection.

On the first part of the lecture, Ms. Wu briefly introduced her work experience. She has wealthy work experience and has worked in different types of enterprises. During her nine years at General Electric, she worked in various departments such as operations, sales and HR. Additionally, she learned by herself about knowledge related to her work through tireless efforts and obtained lawyer's qualification certificate. On the other hand, Ms. Wu also described some hobbies besides her work, so as to explain to students the importance of choosing and balance in careers.

Students are doing DISC test questions. 

On the second stage, Ms. Mo Wu introduced to students a personality test widely used by foreign enterprises – DISC. And then she distributed DISC test questions to help them test and evaluate their personality characteristics. After the students answered questions according to their personal situation, Ms. Wu presented the results of the DISC test, detailing the dominant (D), influence (I), rigorous (C), peace (S) four types of personality characteristics and suitable careers respectively. Through this interesting test, students were able to clarify their individual characteristics and understand their potential leadership types and emotional stability, which was helpful to improve their behaviors, interpersonal relationships, team work and leadership styles.

Finally, Ms. Wu explained to the students which ability would be the most valuable from a HR professional point of view. She hoped students that they could cherish campus time and plan their professions as soon as possible. For example, it was a wise choice for them to fully strive for and grasp all available social practice and internship opportunities. To cope with the complex and changing employment situation better, they should clear personal career directions combining with personal characters.

 

This career planning lecture directed postgraduates in our school to plan careers according to their own personality characteristics, and defined the future study goals and the direction of efforts in school. Students said that as students majored in information management, they should always pay attention to their own career development and never waste time. They would constantly improve personal ability and plan careers better so as to have a solid foundation for the future employment.
