Recently,the Exhibition of Students' Works in Information Visualization Workshop organized by the SIM was kicked off in the second floor corridor of the SIM building. The aim of this exhibition was to respond to the general demand of deepening undergraduate education and teaching reform, implement the fundamental task offostering virtue through education,innovate the new mode of personnel training, improve students' multi-dimensional comprehensive capability of information retrieval, analysis, presentation, interpretation and application in the information age, and continuously optimize the quality of personnel training.
This exhibition included 26 works by students. The composition of the work is exquisite, the color is coordinated and the content is rich. The theme is not only closely related to the pulse of the times and current affairs hotspots, but also covers the subject core and the characteristics of Library, Information, and Archives Management. From China's plan under the world energy crisis to the characteristics of the Chinese delegation in the Summer Olympic Games, from the national cooperation mode of clinical trials to the national trade network along the route under the Belt and Road Initiative, from the progress of digital literacy research to the development status of Lipomics, from the spatial distribution of intangible cultural heritage to the evolution layout of provincial museum construction, from the exploration of the COVID-19 strain research to the spreading path of epidemic network rumors, from the literature context of Shakespeare research to the image expression of poets in Tang Dynasty, the content is rich and varied.
In order to improve students and teachers' understanding of the works, at 8: 30 on December 31, 2021, all authors of selected works were invited to come to their own exhibition boards to present the basis for selecting the topics, data acquisition, map making, visual interpretation, conclusions and reflections, etc. This exhibition also invited Professor Ruhua Huang and Professor Lin Zhang as commenting guests, to have on-the-spot communication with the teachers and students of the exhibition, and the atmosphere was warm and active. The exhibition also attracted many teachers and students to visit, and won high praise.
All theexhibitedworks came from the homework of the course Information Visualization, which was given by Associate Professor Ying Huang. Exhibition of Students' Works is one of the special activities of Information Visualization Workshop built on the basis of this course, and the series of activities also include Experts’ Forum, Research Map Selection Exhibition and so on. Among them, the first Experts’ Forum of Information Visualization Workshop was held virtually on November 26-27, with the theme of ITGInsight Assisted Data Analysis and Visualization of Science and Technology Text, and more than 800 experts, scholars, postgraduates and undergraduates from universities, research institutes and industries at home and abroad participated in the activity.
The course Information Visualization comprehensively applies teaching methods such as audio-visual introduction, classroom teaching, classroom turnover, case analysis, in-class discussion, etc., and deeply integrates visualization theory and method teaching, visualization tools and skills practice, visualization lecture and topic sharing, visualization poster making and on-the-spot presentation, etc. It is a lively course exploration to promote learning through exhibition and teaching through research, which is of positive significance to build an undergraduate course system that orients towards the future, meets the needs, leads the development and advances ideas.
