The Department of Publishing Science in Wuhan University is jointly united by Book Publishing Management Science major initiated in 1983 and Editing Science major set in 1987. Now with both Editing and Publishing Science and Digital Publishing as undergraduate majors, the Department has actually established a complete hierarchical education system of Publishing Science including undergraduate, graduate, doctoral and short-term training programs. There are 14 full-time faculty members, including 8 full professors and doctoral supervisors, 12 kinds of high-level talent. The Department also invited 17 scholars as adjunct professors and researchers. In the past 30 years, the Department has fostered over 8000 advanced professional personnels for the publishing industry, and it is honored as the "Huangpu Military Academy" in the field. The Department has also established cooperative relationship with famous publishing educational institutes abroad, for example, it has consecutively co-hosted five International Conferences on Publishing Industry Development and Talent Cultivation in the Digital Age with Pace University in U.S.A, and has built stable exchange programs with Friedrich-Alexander-Universitaet Erlangen-Nürnberg in Germany. The Department has been good at research fields such as basic publishing theory, publishing marketing and management and digital publishing. It has undertaken over 80 projects in the past five years, including the projects funded by National Social Science Foundation, National Natural Science Foundation, MOE, and the ones led by State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Science and Technology and other national ministries.
