On the afternoon ofJune 29, the fourth"Luojia SIM+Youth Talks" was successfully held virtually. It was hosted by our School, and organized by SIM Journal Center, SIM Branch Library, and Center for Studies of Information Resources, Wuhan University.
The theme of this Youth Talks wasThe Future of Digital Reading: What Will Happen in the Leaving of Kindle.

Wu Liput forwardOn the Interactivity of Digital Readingfrom the perspective of reading interactivity. He expounded the concepts of digital reading and interaction, and pointed out that "the transformation from paper reading to digital reading is essentially the transformation of carrier"; Based on the discussion of some specific connotations of interactivity, he put forward a "three-dimensional framework of digital reading interactivity". Taking book reading as a specific context, he explained the specific directions of these three dimensions; Finally, based on the user-centered perspective, he pointed out that interactivity is actually a psychological variable at the level of user perception. He believes that the effectiveness and conditionality of improving readers' reading experience depends on readers' reading motivation and needs.
Yun Wumade thoughts on the future of digital reading. Firstly, the "change" and "invariability" of reading in the current digital environment -- the change of communication technology, the nature of reading objects and the invariability of its importance. Secondly, digital reading reconstructs the concept of reading. He explained the concept of reading from the broad and narrow perspectives respectively, and analyzed the concept of new media reading. By analyzing the emphases of new media reading and digital reading, he concluded that the connotation and extension of the two are consistent. Thirdly, from the perspective of space, digital reading reconstructs the structure of human cultural space.
The topic brought byYun ZhangwasThe Past, Present and Future of Digital Reading. Firstly, he believed that the reason why Kindle withdrew from the Chinese market is that the profit model behind it has been changed. Secondly, he analyzed Amazon China, the Kindle operator in China, about its technical policy, decision-making power, domestic anti-monopoly policy, product cost performance and substitutability, market share, paper book and e-book user reconfiguration, and pointed out the deep reasons for its huge impact on its profit model. Finally, he explained the current situation of digital reading from many aspects, and proposed that the future of digitalization and industrialization of reading needs to deepen users' needs and various application scenarios. He pointed out that products that integrate knowledge maps and information retrieval functions, make rational use of users' reading traces in digital reading, and ensure the security of big data are more suitable for the current development situation.
The theme shared byZiyang WengwasDisconnection of Sight: Images in Digital Reading. He started from the dimension of image, and proposed that compared with text research, image research has entered a bottleneck period. By analyzing the class nature of images and the relationship between images and traditional publishing, he revealed the reasons behind the "disconnection of sight" in image research. He analyzed the advantages of digital reading scenes and clarified the data nature of images and the relationship between images and digital reading. Finally, Ziyang Weng also shared how to track reading habits, how to realize the same frequency of vision and thinking, and whether new products can appear in digital reading, and put forward solutions such as searching for pictures and texts by picture, associating books, image libraries and text libraries with books, and integration or implantation of software and hardware.
In the discussion session, participants discussed the differences between fragmented reading and deep reading, and whether Kindle is an e-book (e-text) or an e-paper book (electronic version of paper book). With the theme ofReading is a Kind of Ability to be Cultivated,Jie Xufurther explained why reading is not only a comprehensive and systematic process to be learned, but also a daily life behavior. Around the success of Kindle reader,Wu Lialso made relevant supplementary analysis.
The fourth"Luojia SIM+Youth Talks" was shared synchronously through Xueshuzhi and Bilibili live platform. Nearly 1,500 people from both platforms watched the event.
