In order to guide students to strengthen their ideals and beliefs, advocate professional ethics and temper their excellent skills, Ping Wu, Vice President of Wuhan University and Professor at the SIM, gave a lecture entitledCarry Forward Fine Traditions and be Excellent Editor and Publisher.

The lecture was in three parts, which were Ideal Faith, Publishing Work, and Competence and Quality.

In the Ideal Faith, Ping Wu pointed out that editors and publishers should have a clear political position, adhere to the guiding position of Marxism and implement Xi Jinping's new era of socialism with Chinese characteristics. Editors and publishers should shoulder social responsibility, take promoting the development of advanced socialist culture and advanced productive forces as our own responsibility, and be the selector and planner of premium content. Editors and publishers should uphold an inclusive and rigorous professional attitude and serve readers wholeheartedly, and maintain enthusiasm and passion for editing and publishing.

Ping Wu explained the ideological value in the professional knowledge system, and took the cases of Keqin Zhao, a senior editor of the Commercial Press, Yitan Bai, a former deputy editor of People's Publishing House, and other publishers as examples, so that students could understand how to embody political literacy in publishing practice such as manuscript review, how to put the craftsman spirit of seeking truth from facts into responsibilities such as content selection and planning, and how to serve readers with the attitude of being a ladder for others.

In the Publishing Work, Ping Wu pointed out that the complete closed loop of editing and publishing consists of three parts: investigation and research, topic selection and planning, and publicity and feedback. Topic selection and planning is the core of editing and publishing, and it is also the main source of publication innovation. The innovation of planning is reflected in the breakthrough of the existing cultural atmosphere. On the basis of unique topic selection, precise processing, flexible design and ingenious publicity can realize the value of content.

In the Competence and Quality, Ping Wu encouraged the undergraduate and graduate students of Editing and Publishing Science to extensively dabble in other fields and constantly expand their knowledge while studying professional courses, which is the constant competence requirement for editing and publishing work. At the same time, she hoped that the students would keep pace with the times, master new information technology, carry forward the fine tradition of editing and publishing, strive to achieve innovation and development, and grasp the change and invariability of editing literacy.

Ping Wu opened up students' horizons with professional content and inspiring thinking. The students at the scene all expressed that as young people in the new era, they would strengthen their ideals and beliefs, take on the solemn mission entrusted by the new era, consciously inherit the fine traditions of editing and publishing, lay a good foundation in professional basic skills, cultivate innovative ability and quality, and devote themselves into publishing work.
