On July 3, the signboard awarding ceremony andworking seminarof the Key Laboratory of Semantic Publishing and Knowledge Service in Publishing Technology and Standards of the National Press and Publication Administration was held in Wuhan University.

People attended the ceremony were as followings:

Le An, Director of the Science and Technology and Standards Department of the Publishing Bureau of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee,

Ran Ao, Executive Vice President and Secretary General of the China Audio-video and Digital Publishing Association,

Fengrong Zhou, second-level Inspector and Director of the Publishing Department of the Publicity Department of the Hubei Provincial Party committee,

and Yeqin Xu, Vice President of Wuhan University,

Yeqin Xu pointed out in his speech that under the background of new liberal arts construction, cross integration is the direction of discipline innovation and development, and also the key to the construction of liberal arts laboratory. As the forerunner of the new liberal arts construction in Wuhan University, the School of Information Management should take the Key Laboratory of Semantic Publishing and Knowledge Service as the starting point, explore the development path of liberal arts laboratory with the help of the opportunity of new liberal arts construction, boost the construction of innovation system of publishing industry, and serve the high-quality development of publishing industry.

Ran Ao pointed out that the Key Laboratory of Semantic Publishing and Knowledge Service has a solid foundation, rich scientific research achievements and wide social influence. Facing the national strategy of cultural power and the development plan of the Publishing industry in the 14th Five-year Plan period, the laboratory should seize the opportunity to explore new ideas and new models for publishing innovation and "going out" of the publishing industry based on content and technology.

Fengrong Zhou believed that the Publishing discipline construction and Editing and Publishing education of Wuhan University take the lead in China. As a national scientific research institution, the Key Laboratory of Semantic Publishing and Knowledge Service is an important part of the national strategic science and technology force. The laboratory should consciously fulfill the mission of self-reliance and self-improvement, and contribute to the construction of an innovative country.

Le An and Yeqin Xu jointly unveiled the laboratory’s signboard. Professor Qing Fang, Director of the laboratory, issued the appointment letters to the representatives of the academic committee of the laboratory. Ran Ao, Director of the academic committee of the laboratory, presided over the working seminar.

The Laboratory of Semantic Publishing and Knowledge Service was approved as the Key Laboratory of the National Press and Publication Administration in February 2021. The Key Laboratory of Semantic Publishing and Knowledge Service is managed by Wuhan University, and jointly constructed with four organizations, which were China Machine Press, China Social Sciences Academic Press, Changjiang Publishing Media Co., Ltd. and CNKI.NET. The laboratory aims at knowledge mining and service as the main research direction, and focuses on technology such as knowledge mining and discovery, knowledge connection and reorganization, knowledge application and management, knowledge system construction research, natural language understanding and deep learning, and semantic publishing technology such as publishing resource automatic processing, content dynamic reorganization, reading intelligent interaction, and knowledge service model innovation in knowledge resource processing, resource management, product operation and service management.

Focusing on the exploration of relevant theories and basic technologies of semantic publishing, the design of comprehensive platform for intelligent processing of scientific and technological documents, and the key theories and technologies of semantic organization and intelligent reading of publishing resources, the laboratory focuses on building a collaborative innovation platform that gathers multiple advantageous resources, and formulates development standards for the future publishing industry, so as to promote the transformation and upgrading of the publishing industry, and the laboratory will promote the implementation of the strategy of strengthening the country through culture.
