The National Press and Publication Administration recently released the list of key laboratories of Publishing technology and standards, and identified 42 laboratories as National Key Laboratories of Publishing Technology and Standards, among which the Key Laboratory of Semantic Publishing and Knowledge Service managed by Wuhan University was listed. This was the first national level Liberal Arts laboratory managed by Wuhan University.

It was reported that in order to better play the supporting and leading role of science and technology and standards, build a number of high-level industry key laboratories, boost the construction of the innovation system of the publishing industry, and serve the high-quality development of the publishing industry, the National Press and Publication Administration launched the application of key laboratories of science and technology and standards of the publishing industry in 2020.

The Key Laboratory of Semantic Publishing and Knowledge Service is managed by Wuhan University, and jointly constructed with four organizations, which were China Machine Press, China Social Sciences Academic Press, Changjiang Publishing Media Co., Ltd. and CNKI.NET. The laboratory aims at knowledge mining and service as the main research direction, and focuses on technology such as knowledge mining and discovery, knowledge connection and reorganization, knowledge application and management, knowledge system construction research, natural language understanding and deep learning, and semantic publishing technology such as publishing resource automatic processing, content dynamic reorganization, reading intelligent interaction, and knowledge service model innovation in knowledge resource processing, resource management, product operation and service management.

In terms of research content, the laboratory is mainly engaged in the research of semantic publishing related basic theory, semantic publishing process framework optimization, semantic publishing key technology development, publishing smart database construction and intelligent publishing knowledge service design and related fields.

Wuhan University and the four organizations have had deep research foundation and solid work accumulation in the field of semantic publishing and knowledge service. In the past three years, on the field of semantic publishing and knowledge service, they have achievements in influential research and industry application, such as provincial and ministerial level research projects, patents and software copyrights, industry standard formulation, papers and monographs, and have made important contributions to the innovation of basic principles, the breakthrough or integration of key technologies, and the accumulation of basic scientific data. In the future, the laboratory will focus on the research and innovation of semantic publishing theory and methods, the key research of semantic publishing technology, the development and operation of intelligent knowledge service products, and strive to produce important value in improving the intelligent level of science and technology services, creating new intelligent service model and scene, and providing new training platform for scientific research.
